Accused of strangling mother for life insurance, bank access
CLEARFIELD COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — David Lombardo of Clearfield was denied bail again Wednesday and learned his case will be heading towards a trial.
Lombardo is accused of strangling his mother to death in order to claim her life insurance policy and access her bank account.
According to the affidavit, police were dispatched on the morning of March 15 to a residence along East Locust Street, in Clearfield Borough, for a reported cardiac incident.
IRS warns of tax scams; some with false or frivolous claims risk prosecution
(TND) — The IRS this week warned of tax scams and inaccurate social media advice that could land taxpayers in hot water.
The IRS said it has found thousands of dubious claims sharing common themes.
People who seemingly aren’t eligible claimed legitimate, but limited, tax credits.
Many of the claims involve the fuel tax credit, the sick and family leave credit, and household employment taxes.
Myths persist that these are ways to obtain a huge refund, according to the IRS.
Local constable accused of 'impersonating public servant,' illegally removing farm animal
SOMERSET COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — State police in Somerset County say a Meyersdale man is facing charges, accused of "impersonating a public servant" and "illegally removing an animal" from a local farm.
Investigators say on April 6th, troopers were dispatched to a farm along Greenville Road, in Greenville Township, for reports of a dispute over a farm animal.
Police say 60-year-old George Porter allegedly stole a Mouflon Ram from the victim's farm.
Trio jailed following 18-hour standoff in Imler last week
Bedford Co., PA (WJAC) — State police in Bedford County have released new details about what led to an 18-hour standoff in Imler last week.
Authorities say on Thursday night, July 7, troopers were dispatched to a residence, located along the 1200 block of Schellsburg Road in Kimmel Township, to serve an extradition warrant for 40-year-old Matthew Lehman.
According to the affidavit, police spoke with 42-year-old Dana Grabill, who told authorities that Lehman was not inside the residence.
Altoona Model Railroad Museum debuts new model train platforms
Altoona, PA (WJAC) — With the colder weather approaching, and people seeking more things to do indoors, the Altoona Model Railroad Museum Association would like to extend an invitation to the community to visit their museum.
They have numerous train platforms, depicting Altoona and the surrounding landscape, set up at their location along 9th Avenue.
Members spent countless hours designing and building the platforms, and many of the components are handmade.

GOP senators sign letter refusing to cooperate with Dems after Trump conviction
WASHINGTON (TND) — Several GOP senators on Friday signed a forceful letter to their Democratic colleagues revoking their cooperation on any legislation that does not affect the safety of the American people in the wake of the verdict against former President Donald Trump.
A Manhattan jury found the former president guilty Thursday on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records. The Trump campaign later reported earning a record $34.8 million across all small donors following the verdict.
Illegal immigration ties targeted in proposal on federal grants
WASHINGTON (TCS) — Illegal immigration, directly or indirectly, won’t be permitted in any way by non-governmental organizations that get federal grants under a proposal by a North Carolina congresswoman.
The Grant Integrity and Border Security Act, as House Resolution 8334 is known, would require applicants to certify they have not, will not and are not “engaging in acts related to the smuggling and transportation of illegal aliens into the United States – and that they are not engaging in a conspiracy to take any of these actions.
Johnstown rink will have new use
RICHLAND TOWNSHIP— An ice rink that has been closed for a year will soon have a new use: working on airplane parts for Lockheed Martin.
Lockheed announced in March that a plant in Johnstown will be preparing aircraft surface panels for F-35 fighter jets.
That work is set to be done at the old Planet Ice building in Richland Township, but only after the company completes a slew of upgrades at the building.
