They are our best friends, always by our side but owning a pet can tug at your wallet.
That’s why Missy LaMonaca from Johnstown and two of her friends started the Fat Cat Emergency Medical Fund in December.

Altoona code enforcement "condemns" church
ALTOONA -- Archway Ministries in Altoona is closed this week with a "condemned" sign on the door.
The church's food bank serves more than 100 people monthly, but pastor and building owner Louis Grillo said that service is put on hold.
During an inspection, officers found evidence of rats and mice throughout the building and food pantry, according to City Code Enforcement Director Rebecca Brown. "There is an infestation problem," she said.
Coroner releases how two men died after they were found at Wilmore Dam
WILMORE, Pa. (WJAC) — Cambria County Coroner Jeff Lees provided an update Tuesday after two men were found floating in the Wilmore Dam by a group of kayakers June 9.
Lees identified the two men June 10 as 78-year-old Francis Frear and 68-year-old Dennis Livingston from Mineral Point.
According to Lees, the two men were good friends and were fishing from a boat when Frear suffered from a cardiac event and fell into the water which was about 30 feet deep.
GMU students walk out of graduation during Gov. Youngkin's speech
FAIRFAX, Va. (7News) — About a dozen George Mason University students walked out of their graduation ceremony Thursday morning during Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin's commencement speech.
At least 13 students left EagleBank Arena and didn't walk across the stage to receive their diplomas. According to the walkout organizer, Democrats at Mason, the students were protesting Youngkin delivering the commencement address and it was a demonstration against the governor's "divisive policies."
Maui sues cell carriers over wildfire warning alerts that were never received
HONOLULU (AP) — Had emergency responders known about widespread cellphone outages during the height of last summer's deadly Maui wildfires, they would have used other methods to warn about the disaster, county officials said in a lawsuit.
Alerts the county sent to cellphones warning people to immediately evacuate were never received, unbeknownst to the county, the lawsuit said.
Maui officials failed to activate sirens that would have warned the entire population of the approaching flames.
Owner says Three Mile Island plant to shut down in 2019
HARRISBURG -- The owner of Three Mile Island, site of the United States' worst commercial nuclear power accident, says it will shut down the plant in 2019 without a financial rescue from Pennsylvania.
Exelon Corp. said Monday's announcement comes after five years of losses on the power plant and its recent failure in an auction to sell Three Mile Island's power into the regional grid.
The Chicago-based energy company wants Pennsylvania to give nuclear power megawatts the kind of preferential treatment and premium payments that are given to renewable energies, such as wind and solar.

Stay-at-home mom, Candace Payne, set the internet on fire with a Facebook live video featuring her uncontrollably laughing while trying on a Chewbacca mask for the first time. "I'm such a happy Chewbacca," she shouted in the video before she started crying tears from laughing too hard in her car. American Legion Cambria County Fair happening this week
EBENSBURG, Pa. (WJAC) — The American Legion Cambria County Fair in Ebensburg is a popular spot this Labor Day.
The fair features livestock competitions, agricultural exhibits, rides and several food vendors.
On Monday night, Grammy Award-nominated Dailey and Vincent will perform at the Grandstand from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Fireworks will light up the sky after the show.
Daily admission is $8, which includes access to rides and shows.
Farmers voice tariff concerns at Penn State AG Progress Days
CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — Penn State's annual AG Progress Days are underway.
It is one of the largest, outdoor agricultural shows on the East Coast, but this year, there's a lot of talk about the business of farming.
It was a busy first day for AG Progress Days where once again there's a lot to see and do.
But for many farmers, including the state's top farmer, the Secretary of Agriculture , one of the more dominant topics is the global economy.
Former Steelers WR Martavis Bryant signs free agent deal with Cowboys after NFL reinstatement
Former Pittsburgh Steelers wide-receiver Martavis Bryant is returning to the NFL after being suspended from the league for nearly five years.
Reports indicate that he is signing a free agent contract with the Dallas Cowboys.
Bryant was drafted by Pittsburgh in 2014 out of Clemson University.
In 2016, Bryant was suspended by the NFL for reportedly violating the league's substance abuse policy.
He was reinstated in 2017 and finished the year with 50 catches, for over 600 yards and three touchdowns.
