The city of Scranton welcomed home their very own Detective Kyle Gilmartin. It was an emotional return, with many from the community and beyond who came out to show support.
Outside the Scranton Police Headquarters, many filled the parking lot and lawn, waiting for the anticipated return of Detective Kyle Gilmartin, who many call a hero.
In early January, Gilmartin was shot twice in the head while in the of duty - when he and fellow officers were ambushed in a gang-related shooting.
PA nurse who gave patients lethal or possibly lethal insulin doses gets life in prison
A Pennsylvania nurse who administered lethal or potentially lethal doses of insulin to numerous patients pleaded guilty to three counts of murder and other charges Thursday and was sentenced to life in prison.
Heather Pressdee, 41, was given three consecutive life sentences and another consecutive term of 380-760 years behind bars during a hearing in Butler, about 30 miles (48 kilometers) north of Pittsburgh. She played a role in the deaths of at least 17 patients who lived in five health facilities in four counties between 2020 and 2023, prosecutors said.
Pregnant mom, 6-year-old son killed by driver going 100+ mph, police say
AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — The woman who was killed in a high speed crash, along with her 6-year-old son, by a man going over 100 mph was pregnant, according to police.
Amarillo police identified the woman as 26-year-old Rocio Castejon.
Because Castejon was pregnant, police charged the driver, 19-year-old Abdurahman Garang Hussein, with three counts of vehicular manslaughter.
Around 7:35 p.m. Friday, Castejon stopped the stop sign at Florida Street and Amarillo Blvd.
Toyota recalls air bags that may not inflate properly
DETROIT (AP) — Toyota is recalling 191,000 cars in North America and Japan because the air bags may not inflate properly in a crash.
The recall covers certain 2003 through 2008 Corolla compact sedans and 2005 through 2008 Matrix hatchbacks.
Toyota says the front passenger air bags in the cars were installed in prior recalls to replace dangerous Takata air bags.
But in high temperatures, the replacement bags may not unfold as designed, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.

Dentist acquitted in rape case named in civil lawsuit
BELLEFONTE, Pa. (WJAC) — A dentist from Bellefonte who was acquitted of rape and kidnapping charges in July was named in a civil lawsuit by his alleged victim, according to Centre County court officials.
Wade Newman, former owner of Bellefonte Family Dentistry, was charged in March 2017 when the woman said Newman drove her home after a procedure then forced himself on her.
The attack is alleged to have happened in October 2016, according to the Center County District Attorney's Office.
Encampment near Seattle senior living community has become an 'occupation,' residents say
SEATTLE — Residents at the Arrowhead Gardens senior living apartments are used to having homeless encampments across the street from them in a wooded area owned by the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT). The most recent southwest Seattle encampment, however, is completely different from what the seniors have seen before, according to Arrowhead Gardens resident Diane Radischat. PA Chick-Fil-A places ban on unaccompanied minors dining in
A Pennsylvania Chick-fil-A is now requiring younger dine-in customers to be accompanied by an adult.
The fast-food restaurant in Royersford says anyone can still come in and purchase food to go, but customers younger than 16 that want to eat inside the restaurant need to be with an adult.
The owner says they have been dealing with issues such as bad language, mistreatment of property, and disrespect of employees.
He says it most often happens on weekends, when teens walk over from a nearby park, unaccompanied.
Police ID suspect of deadly Moxham shooting; 'wife' charged for taking phone from scene
Johnstown, PA (WJAC) — Johnstown police have filed charges against the individual suspected of shooting and killing another man in the Moxham-section of the city last month.
Authorities have identified the shooter as 18-year-old Michael Cogdell, of Pittsburgh.
On January 23rd, police were called to the 600 block of Park Ave. for a report of a gunshot victim.
The victim, who was later identified as 41-year-old Marvin Price, was reportedly shot multiple times by another man near the former St.
University of Chicago students stage commencement walkout as diplomas withheld
CHICAGO (AP) — Dozens of students protesting the war in Gaza walked out of the University of Chicago's commencement Saturday as the school withheld the diplomas of four seniors over their involvement with a pro-Palestinian encampment.
The disruption to the rainy two-hour outdoor ceremony was brief, with shouts, boos and calls to "Stop Genocide." A crowd of students walked out in between speeches and a demonstration followed the official ceremony. Some chanted as they held Palestinian flags while others donned traditional keffiyeh, black and white checkered scarves that represent Palestinian solidarity, over their robes.
