Biden campaign faces problem with perceptions of the economy that don't track with data

WASHINGTON (TND) — The way Americans feel about the economy is in direct contrast with the measured data that is showing continued growth and strong employment opportunities for workers that has been consistent despite higher interest rates from the Federal Reserve that are meant to cool activity. A Harris-Guardian poll released this week found more than half of Americans believe the economy is in recession and shrinking, nearly 50% believe unemployment is at a 50-year high and that the S&P index is down for the year.

Coroner IDs man shot & killed by PSP following high-speed chase in Indiana County

Indiana County, PA (WJAC) — Indiana County coroner Jerry Overman has identified the man who was shot and killed by state police over the weekend following a high-speed chase. Overman says 51-year-old John Vincent Dye suffered multiple gunshot wounds following the officer-involved shooting that occurred late Sunday night. Investigators say troopers attempted to conduct a traffic stop in Center Township, when Dye fled the scene and a pursuit was initiated.

Man killed in crash that shut down Route 322 in State College

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - State College police said a crash that shut down state Route 322 Wednesday resulted in one death. Police said 47-year-old Robert Bloom, of Bellefonte, was killed in the crash. According to police, the crash happened around 7:45 a.m. at the Mount Nittany Expressway, between the College Avenue and Elmwood Street overpasses. Police said a 19-year-old driver was traveling west on state Route 322 when she lost control of her Chevrolet Malibu and crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a Ford Focus, driven by Bloom, head-on.

One person dead following shooting at mall in Texas

SAN ANTONIO (WOAI) — One person is dead following a shooting at the North Star Mall in San Antonio on Sunday afternoon. Police say the shooting was an isolated incident inside a barbershop at the mall around 3 p.m. According to the police, two suspects went inside the barbershop and shot the victim while he was getting a haircut. Police say the victim has been pronounced dead. Officials are actively searching for the suspects who fled the scene.

Severe storms kill 4 in Houston, cause widespread power outages and risk of tornadoes

HOUSTON (AP) — Fast-moving thunderstorms pummeled southeastern Texas for the second time this month, killing at least four people, blowing out windows in high-rise buildings, downing trees and knocking out power to more than 900,000 homes and businesses in the Houston area. Officials urged residents to keep off roads following Thursday's storms, as many were impassable and traffic lights were out. The storm system moved through swiftly, but flood watches and warnings remained Friday for Houston and areas to the east.

Man arrested in death of former Pittsburgh Penguin Adam Johnson released on bail

UPDATE | Reports say the man who was arrested Tuesday in the death investigation of former Pittsburgh Penguins' hockey player Adam Johnson has been released on bail. The suspect, who has not yet been identified by British authorities, was held on suspicion of manslaughter. Johnson died last month after being cut in the neck by the skate of an opposing player during an EIHL game between the Nottingham Panthers and the Sheffield Steelers.

St. Marys shoe store collecting socks for troops

ST. MARYS - A shoe store in St. Marys is making sure veterans and active-military members have warm feet this winter. As of Nov. 27, Shoe Sensation's Socks for Troops program has collected nearly 4,000 pairs of socks and 585 shoelaces for local veterans and active-duty military overseas nationally. Store manager Christy Moonan said the program started at the store in St. Marys in 2013 and because of the impact it made, the company decided to take the program nation wide.

TSA officers arrested for stealing from passenger bags during airport screenings, report says

MIAMI (TND) — Three TSA officers employed at Miami International Airport in Florida were arrested for stealing money from passenger bags during routine screenings, according toNBC Miami. NBC Miami says Josue Gonzalez, 20; Elizabeth Fuster, 22, and Labarrius Williams, 33, were arrested Thursday at the airport and charged with organized scheme to defraud. According to an arrest report, officials started investigating thefts that occurred at the airport's Security Checkpoint E, where all three officers worked.
