State cuts budget for public libraries, DuBois Public Library impacted

DuBois, PA — The Director of the DuBois Public Library says COVID-19 has impacted how the library operates and with statewide budget cuts, she isn't sure how much funding the library will receive next year. Americans keeping cars longer amid rising new vehicle costs, hits nearly 13-year high

WASHINGTON (TND) — Americans are holding onto their cars longer than ever, mostly because of high prices. S & P Global Mobility reports the average age of an American vehicle is a record high of 12.6 years old, which is three months more than last year. "With average age growth, more vehicles are entering the prime range for aftermarket service, typically from 6 to 14 years of age," said Todd Campau, aftermarket practice lead at S&P Global Mobility.

Coroner releases boy's cause of death in fatal Huston Township fire

Clearfield Co., PA (WJAC) — Clearfield County coroner Kim Shaffer-Snyder has released the cause of death for the 14-year-old boy who tragically died earlier this week in an overnight house fire in Huston Township. The coroner's office says the teen, who has not been identified by authorities, died from smoke inhalation. Fire officials say multiple departments were dispatched to the blaze, located along Dr's Lane, just after midnight Monday morning.

Frankstown Elementary collects donations for students after fire destroys home

HOLLIDAYSBURG, Pa. (WJAC) -- Two families with a total of three students who attend Frankstown Elementary School had their homes destroyed in a fire last Friday. Officials said the blaze started on the third floor of building 4A in the Country Club Terrace apartments. Last week, Geeseytown Fire Chief Denny Walls told 6 News all 12 units in the building were unlivable. On Monday, Frankstown Elementary School Principal Bill Madden confirmed two families with students in his school lost their homes.

Chester, PA — Authorities say two children were struck and killed by an Amtrak train Saturday afternoon in Chester, Pennsylvania. Amtrak officials confirmed a train heading from New York to Washington D.C. had 368 passengers on board when it came into contact with two people who were trespassing on the tracks around 4:30 p.m. One witness said there were at least half a dozen kids walking on the tracks before the incident took place.

Dry ice factory to bring more than 60 jobs to Clearfield County

CLEARFIELD - Job applications are currently being accepted for a dry ice facility being built in Clearfield County. Continental Carbonic Products Inc. announced they'd be building a high-capacity liquid CO2 and dry ice manufacturing facility next to the PGP ethanol plant in September 2016. "Dry ice is a form of solidified carbon dioxide, it's used in primarily food applications for keeping food cold," plant manager David Schultz said. "It's also used in the pharmaceutical and automotive industry.

Local organization to pay over $100K after investigation into falsified volunteer hours

This week it was learned the Cambria County Area Agency on Aging agreed to pay more than $100,000 following a federal investigation and Representative Frank Burns is calling for greater transparency from the agency. Investigators with the U.S. Attorney's Office said they found the agency falsified volunteer hours that led to them being paid higher stipends. They said it was part of the AmeriCorps Foster Grandparent Program. Cambria County Solicitor Ronald Repak said the issue happened in 2016 and 2017, and that it's been completely resolved and shouldn't negatively impact the agency or county.

Morning fire damages Amish barn in Somerset County; two sheep killed in blaze
