New tariffs expected on EVs, other Chinese green energy imports

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Biden administration plans to impose major new tariffs on electric vehicles, semiconductors, solar equipment and medical supplies imported from China, according to a U.S. official and another person familiar with the plan. Tariffs on electric vehicles, in particular, could quadruple — from the existing 25% to 100%. The plan was described by the people on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to provide details ahead of a formal announcement.

Police seek to identify 3 in connection with stolen jewelry

CLEARFIELD - Police in Clearfield County continue to investigate the theft of approximately $40,000 worth of jewelry. Clearfield Borough police said the incident happened Dec. 14 at Zalno Jewelers on North Third Street around 6:15 p.m. Officer Nathan Curry said police are currently looking into possible sightings of the group at other jewelry stores to build a timeline. Baker Mansion preparing to host its annual 'Haunted Mansion' tours

Altoona, PA (WJAC) — The staff at the Baker Mansion is preparing to host its annual “Haunted Mansion" candlelight tours where visitors will hear “real perceptions” of what people say they have experienced inside the mansion. The mansion hasn’t had a family reside in it since 1914, so these tales have lingered in the halls for over a century. The tours will be held from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., on October 14th and 15th, and then again on the 21st and 22nd.

Major hospital system's vaccine mandate may have violated religious rights, court says

More than 2,000 properties behind on taxes up for sale in Cambria County

JOHNSTOWN -- Out of an estimated 87,000 properties in Cambria County, approximately 12,000 are behind on taxes, and about 2,100 are up for sale. Properties that are two years behind on property taxes are put into the tax sale system, where people can buy them for much cheaper than usual. For instance, at a private sale, which happens four times a year, people buy properties for as little as $200, although they still owe any back taxes in mortgages.

PA Farm Bureau submits letter to PennDOT regarding State College Connector Project

Centre Co., PA (WJAC) — One of the state's largest farming organizations is now weighing in on a controversial Centre County highway project. The Pennsylvania Farm Bureau is asking PennDOT to consider some possible alternatives in the current planning process. There is growing attention now on PennDOT’s State College Connector Project, with several route options being studied, routes that would cut across prime farmland. 1 drowned after car rolled over into Ligonier Township creek, coroner says

LIGONIER TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WJAC) — One man drowned when his car rolled over into a creek in Ligonier Township Sunday, Cambria County Coroner Jeff Lees said. Lees said 28-year-old Benjamin Leshow was traveling south on Route 271 just before 7 p.m. when he failed to negotiate a curve and drove into some yards, taking out multiple utility poles before rolling over into a creek. Leshow was not wearing a seat belt and was partially ejected from the vehicle, Lees said.
