Dead horse that suffered miscarriage leads to charges for Centre County man: PSP

CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. — A Centre County man is facing multiple charges after reports of a dead horse on his property lead to the discovery of multiple other deceased animals as well as animals in poor living conditions Jan. 30, state police say. According to a criminal complaint, state police received a complaint of a deceased black Percheron mare laying in a muddy pasture for over a week. State police say a neighbor approached them and said that Levi Byler, 30, was out of town selling sheep and that he was going to bury the deceased horse.

Fishing licenses now on sale

HARRISBURG Pa (WJAC) — The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission announced on Sunday that fishing licenses for the 2020 season are now on sale. While most people wait until just before the beginning of the season, there are some advantages to purchasing a license early. "When you buy a fishing license now, you really get the most value for your dollar," said Amber Nabors, Director of the PFBC Bureau of Outreach, Education and Marketing.

Policy change allows Pennsylvania special education students to stay in school until 22

The Pennsylvania Department of Education has made a policy change this school year that impacts special education students. Up until this year, special education students could remain in school until they were 21 years old, but with this recent change in policy now they students can stay in school until the age of 22. The Pennsylvania Department of Education sent a letter out on August 30th to school districts across the commonwealth — stating in part, “The Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) is writing to communicate an important policy change that will provide continued education services to special education students.

PSP investigating accidental fire in Adams County

Pennsylvania State Police and are investigating after a fire broke out at a home in Oxford Township Friday evening, according to a press release. The press release states that the fire happened on the 100 block of Fish and Game Road just before 10:30 p.m. State Police said that firefighters arrived on scene to discover a detached garage, two vehicle and the exterior of the residence involved in the fire.

Strip club to file federal lawsuit against Portage Borough

The owner of a Cambria County strip club is planning on filing a federal lawsuit against Portage Borough and several officials. According to Gary Vaughn, the owner of Bodies in Motion, he is asking for $1 million from each of 11 defendants listed in the lawsuit that mentions three ordinances in Portage that Vaughn claims are unconstitutional. “I believe that all 11 are responsible for violating constitutional rights of not only mine but anybody who lives in this borough,” Vaughn said.

1 injured as crews from multiple counties fight large forest fire in Elk County: 911

BENEZETTE TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WJAC) — UPDATE | Jay Township Fire Chief Brandon Kowalski tells 6 News that more than 100 acres of forest were impacted by Wednesday evening's wildfire, although he's not yet sure the exact amount. Kowalski was the incident commander for the fire. He tells 6 News it's still unclear what led to flames breaking out on a homeowners property around 3 p.m. before quickly spreading. Crews from about 20 different departments were called to help fight the flames.

Penn State parking garage to partially reopen on Monday, university says

UPDATE | University Park, PA (WJAC) — Penn State Transportation officials announced Friday afternoon that the Eisenhower Parking Deck will partially reopen to the public on Monday following the sinkhole that was discovered earlier this week. Officials say the north section of the parking structure will remain closed. The university says the parking garage will be accessible by traveling east on Eisenhower Road from Shortlidge Road. Investigators have not yet released the cause of Wednesday's sinkhole.

Pirates release longtime minor leaguer Drew Maggi

Pittsburgh (WJAC) — The fairy tale has come to an end, at least for now. According to multiple reports, the Pittsburgh Pirates organization has reportedly released infielder Drew Maggi. Maggi's "inspirational" story began in the spring when he made his MLB debut on April 26th after spending 13 years in the minor leagues. The following day, Maggi made his first career big-league start against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Then, a few days later, in a rain-out/make-up doubleheader, Maggi recorded his first career MLB hit and RBI against the Washington Nationals.
