WASHINGTON (TND) — The Senatepassed a bill reauthorizing the Federal Aviation Administration’s authority over the country’s vast aviation system, which comes as the agency is facing pressure to ramp up its safety oversight and procedures after a series of close calls on runways, high-profile incidents involving Boeing jets and a shortage of air traffic controllers. The bill passed with overwhelming bipartisan support and aims to fully staff safety and inspection teams, hire more air traffic controllers, boost safety standards and procedures and make it easier for travelers to get refunds, along with other priorities.

Bellefonte man charged for harassing 911; claimed he was being 'mind-controlled'

Centre Co., PA (WJAC) — Authorities in Centre County say a Bellefonte man is behind bars after being accused of repeatedly calling 911 and harassing the dispatchers, all while claiming that the local police department was "mind-controlling" him. According to the affidavit, police say 29-year-old James Surovec allegedly kept calling the Centre County 911 center to report "non-emergencies." Investigators say Survoec reportedly called the center 24 times over a few-day period.

Clearfield Co. man accused of inappropriately touching two young girls

Clearfield Co., PA (WJAC) — Police say a 35-year-old Clearfield County man has been charged for allegedly touching two young girls. According to a probable-cause affidavit, in October, one of the girls reported to police that Lance Spencer, of Lawrence Township, had inappropriately touched her last summer. During a police investigation, another victim reported that Spencer had inappropriately touched her in 2010 when she was 5 years old, according to the affidavit.

Dead fish found floating in Somerset Lake after fish salvage

SOMERSET - The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission is speaking out after dozens of dead fish were found floating in the water at Somerset Lake two weeks after a fish salvage. The fish salvage happened on Oct.24 in preparation to completely drain the lake and make repairs to the dam and spillway. On Wednesday, a resident sent 6 News a picture of what appears to be dozens of fish piled up on shore at the lake.

Man charged with breaking into Altoona Curve Baseball stadium, caught hiding in golf club toilet

A 37-year-old man has been charged with breaking into Peoples Natural Gas Field Thursday afternoon. At about 11:50 a.m. Thursday Logan Township police responded to the stadium for a report of a burglary. The glass of an office door had been broken to gain entrance, according to township police. Photos and video were obtained that showed Brandon Lee Allen as the person who broke into the office and stole multiple items, according to police.

Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office fires deputy involved in fatal Air Force Airman shooting

OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. (WEAR) — The Okaloosa County Sheriff's deputy involved inthe fatal shooting of Air Force Senior Airman Roger Fortson has been terminated following the completion of an administrative internal affairs investigation. The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office released a statement Friday afternoon, saying the investigation determined Deputy Eddie Duran's use of deadly force "was not objectively reasonable and therefore violated agency policy." The fatal shooting of the 23-year-old Fortson took place on May 3 at an apartment complex on Racetrack Road in Fort Walton Beach.
