'The biggest race of my life' Johnstown resident becomes youngest person to run the Badwater 135 Ult
Somerset County, PA — Fewer than 1 thousand people have ran the ultramarathon that a young woman from our area has just completed. Kaylee Frederick of Johnstown finishing the race in 40 hours. She started the race on July 4th at 8 PM.
The race is 135 miles long, hence the title, with peaks thousands of feet high, and stretches of desert in between. Temperatures soaring over 100 degrees Fahrenheit. As of July 6th, Frederick is the youngest person to complete it, at 18 years old.
1 dead after crash on Rt. 22 involving bicyclists traveling from Ohio to Altoona
MURRYSVILLE, Pa. (WTAE) — "You can see traffic moving once again in the east and westbound lanes of Route 22. It's those east bound lanes that were closed for hours this morning after four bicyclists were hit. One of them did not survive."
Murrysville Police Chief Thomas Seefeld is calling the crash a tragic accident.
Four bicyclists were hit by a vehicle along Route 22 near Brick Hill Road at around 4 a.
Man charged for having sex with horses
SAN ANTONIO (WOAI/KABB) - San Antonio Police arrested a man for bestiality with two horses inside an area horse barn. According to the police report, the suspect, 24-year-old Jean Bugoma, was caught on surveillance cameras in June 2020 walking through the stables naked. He is seen going into different stalls. The next morning, the owner noticed two of his horses both suffered leg injuries. A veterinarian determined that both had also been sexually and physically assaulted.
Man in custody following hours-long standoff in Clearfield Co. that closed Rt. 255
UPDATE:CLEARFIELD COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — Authorities say one man is in federal custody following an hours-long standoff in Sandy Township, Clearfield County.
State police say the standoff resulted in a large portion of Route 255, between DuBois and Penfield, being closed most of Wednesday.
Sandy Township Police Chief Kriz Kruzelac confirmed to our 6 News crew on scene that state police and U.S. Marshalls were serving a federal search warrant at a home along Old 255, prior to the standoff.

Steelers set 53-man roster; WR Ryan Switzer among notable players released
Pittsburgh, Pa (WJAC) — As the NFL season is set to return this coming Thursday, teams are dwindling their rosters to their final 53-man squad.
On Saturday, the Pittsburgh Steelers released a few notable players to set their official roster.
Wide-receiver Ryan Switzer was the most notable player that the Steelers released.
Switzer had spent the last two seasons in black and gold, primarily as a special teams player and occasional slot receiver.
Blair County nonprofit, businesses organize boutique for local women in recovery
BLAIR COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — A special event was held Monday in Blair County.
Families United for Change teamed up with several local businesses and organizations to host a clothing and accessory boutique for women in recovery.
The event was held inside the newly created Railroad City Cultural Center, located within the historic Gables building.
Women in recovery are able to stop in and peruse the items, which range from business attire to hygiene items.
Inmate at SCI Smithfield charged in murder-for-hire plot of mother's husband
Huntingdon Co., PA (WJAC) — Authorities say an inmate at SCI Smithfield is facing new charges after being accused of attempting to orchestrate the murder of his mother's new husband.
Investigators say in May, troopers learned of an alleged murder-for-hire plot after reviewing letters that had been sent by 36-year-old Sean (Ceyon) Cuffy Jr. According to the affidavit, Cuffy had allegedly sent the letters to a woman, and had asked her to contact a man who goes by the name "
PSU president pleads for more funding as university continues 'quiet' fundraising campaign
University Park, PA (WJAC) — Penn State's latest university-wide fundraising campaign is "quietly" underway and is expected to be ongoing through the end of this decade.
This week, the Penn State trustees committee on outreach, development and community relations heard an update on the new fundraising campaign, which kicked off its “quiet phase” last July and isn't expected to wrap up until June of 2030, which will coincide with the 175th anniversary of the founding of Penn State.
Richland students learn about police, responders at Kiwanis Kids Day
CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — Richland Elementary students learned about a number of local organizations Wednesday.
Presenters from police, fire and emergency services, as well as the game commission interacted with kids in grades kindergarten through sixth grade.
The students were also able to enjoy carnival type activities and be outdoors while learning.
The district works with East Kills Kiwanis Club to organize the presenters.
