Laurel Arts hosts last Maker's Market for the year
Wednesday marked the last Maker's Market of the year for Laurel Arts in Somerset county.
The Market was first introduced in July and ran once a month until today, though it will have a brief indoor return on December 3rd.
This event serves as an important space for local artisans, artists and makers of all sorts to showcase their work and provide a sense of community and exposure to artists in the area.
Man assaulted victim in shower prior to double shooting at Punxsutawney home
2nd UPDATE |Jefferson Co., PA (WJAC) — A police criminal complaint is providing new details about Monday night's double shooting at a residence in Punxsutawney Borough.
Investigators say the suspect, 22-year-old Matthew Brotherton, allegedly broke into the Woodland Avenue home and assaulted the victim, a 27-year-old male, while he was showering.
Police say Brotherton is then accused of firing multiple shots at the victim, striking him in the stomach and the right thigh.
Nurses go on strike at 2 big New York City hospitals
Striking nurses chanted and waved signs outside two large New York City hospitals Monday after a weekend of negotiations over pay and staffing levels did not produce a deal for a new contract.
The walkout involves as many as 3,500 nurses at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx and about 3,600 at Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan. Patients are likely to see disruptions in care such as emergency room visits and childbirth.

CLEARFIELD CO., Pa. (WJAC) — There's some controversy in Clearfield County, where Houtzdale Fire Company's in a dispute with Decatur Township over the ending of a contract, meaning the fire company may no longer cover certain areas.
At the heart of this situation, Houtzdale Fire Company says it wanted to renegotiate its contract with Decatur Township. But the township chose not to do that and instead signed a three-year contract with Columbia Volunteer Fire Company.
NJ man killed in crash on PA Turnpike in Somerset Co.
SOMERSET CO, Pa (WJAC) — State police say a New Jersey man was killed early Thursday morning in a crash along the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Somerset County.
Troopers say the crash occurred around 1 a.m. Thursday as the driver of a van and a tractor-trailer were exiting towards the southbound Somerset service plaza.
Investigators say the driver of the van failed to slow down in time and rear-ended the tractor-trailer.
PSP IDs couple killed in 3-vehicle crash on Route 220 in Centre Co.
UPDATE:CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — State police have identified the two people killed in Tuesday's three-vehicle crash in Centre County.
Troopers say Harry and Meredith Dillon, both age 69 and from Tyrone, were traveling northbound along Route 220, also known as South Eagle Valley Road, when their vehicle crossed the center line, for unknown reasons.
Investigators say they struck the driver's side of one vehicle before colliding head-on into another.
