Clerk took an extra $800+ for each transaction in $3 million title fraud scheme, cops say

DORAL, Fla. (TND) — The clerk at an auto tag agency near Miami is facing three dozen felonies in what's being called a $3 million title fraud scheme. Prosecutors say that scheme started unraveling when “a stolen vehicle pinging inside the bay of a local auto shop” got the attention of police in the suburb of Doral. That was back on Jan. 12. Detectives executed a search warrant and found three stolen luxury vehicles: a 2022 Lamborghini Urus, a 2023 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera, and a 2021 Mercedes-Benz G550, as well as two fraudulent VIN plates.

I-80 reopened near DuBois following hours-long closure due to fatal crash, weather

2nd UPDATE|Clearfield Co., PA (WJAC) — According to PennDOT's 511 PA alert page, Interstate 80 eastbound, near the DuBois exit, has reopened after being closed for several hours due to a fatal crash and snow squalls in the area. Clearfield County coroner Kim Shaffer-Snyder confirmed that her office was called to the scene of the multi-vehicle crash, which was first reported by PennDOT between 11:30 a.m. and noon Friday. Authorities have not confirmed any further details about the crash and 911 officials say state police are investigating.

Local medical clinic announces summer fundraising concert

A free medical clinic in Cambria County announced its yearly summer fundraising concert Friday morning. Officials said for nearly 30 years, Highlands Health Clinic in Johnstown has held an annual fundraising concert for patients in need. This year’s concert will be on August 24th. Officials said audiences can expect to see multiple performers, including American Idol contestant Carly Moffa and Lawrence the Band. They said the goal is to raise $50,000 for community members that don’t have insurance.

Woman pleads guilty in connection to drug overdose death in Elk County

RIDGWAY - A Byrnedale woman has pleaded guilty in connection with an overdose death Monday. Elk County District Attorney Shawn McMahon said Allison Miller, 29, pleaded guilty to conspiracy for drug delivery resulting in death. McMahon said she was sentenced to four to 10 years in prison. Miller and Theresa Sample, 27, were charged in February in the March 2017 death of Kaitlyn Buerk, Miller's sister and Sample's cousin. According to police, Miller bought 20 bags of what she believed was heroin from a man in Pittsburgh.

1 killed in crash along Plank Road in East Carroll Township

EBENSBURG, Pa. (WJAC) — Authorities responded to a fatal crash along Plank Road in East Carroll Township, according to the Cambria County Coroner's Office. According to state police, one person was killed. Authorities say the crash happened along Plank Road near Main Street Monday morning. According to an initial investigation, state police believe the car hit an embankment while trying to exit Plank Road. The car went airborne and hit a billboard pole, according to state police.

Man convicted of 2009 Altoona murders found dead in prison

ERIE, Pa. (WJAC) — A Johnstown man who was serving a life sentence at SCI Albion in Erie County for killing two Blair County Residents in 2009 committed suicide, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections. Corrections officers found 39-year-old Nicholas Horner unresponsive in his jail cell just before 2 a.m. Saturday while they were conducting routine checks of all the cell blocks, according to a release from the DOC.
