Farmers, officials lobby for new animal lab in western PA
CENTRE COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Farmers and others in agriculture-related industries are lobbying for a state veterinary lab to be set up in western Pennsylvania.
The state has three animal testing labs, including one at Penn State, which are vital in providing quick testing services during an outbreak of potentially dangerous diseases, such as avian flu.
The labs also provide training and employment opportunities, but the other two labs in Pennsylvania are east of Penn State, and the state's Secretary of Agriculture says western Pennsylvania farmers deserve better, and quicker access to testing services.
Fitness center in DuBois offers free membership for youth
DuBois, PA — The WPAL Fitness Center in DuBois is launching their after-school fit club for youth aged 6-18.
The Western Pennsylvania Police Athletic League has nine boxing and fitness centers in Western Pennsylvania.
One of those include the WPAL Fitness Center in the heart of DuBois.
With their motto being "always for the kids," all of the WPAL fitness centers are free for kids aged 6-18. WPAL memberships are also free for first responders and military personnel.
Johnstown woman stabbed to death during Facebook Marketplace sale: Investigators
CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — Investigators say a woman who was found stabbed to death in Geistown Tuesday was killed by a man whom she met on Facebook Marketplace to buy a fridge for her boyfriend.
Authorities say 26-year-old Joshua Gorgone was arrested Tuesday and has been charged with criminal homicide in the slaying of 54-year-old Denise Williams.
Officials held a press conference Wednesday morning, where they provided more details related to the case.
Police in Michigan rescue 22 canines from suspected dog fighting ring
MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, Mich. (WWMT) — Police in Michigan rescued more than 20 canines from an alleged dog fighting ring on Friday.
After investigating four residences in Muskegon Heights and one in Norton Shores, officers from the Muskegon Heights Police Department rescued 22 dogs and recovered one that was deceased, authorities said in a news release.
Police arrested four people, three of which are charged with dog fighting and one had a warrant for their arrest, according to MHPD.
