Blair County, PA — Governor Josh Shapiro spoke at the Hollidaysburg veterans home, during the announcement of new additions to the facility. He also spoke directly to veteran residents, and talked about the impacts the upgrades will have.
“It will begin a new chapter of our commonwealth’s commitment to our veterans.” Shapiro says. Officials say it is the community’s responsibility to care for veterans, in times of sickness, struggle, and as they age.
Besides the Governor, other leaders spoke at the event, including acting secretary, Reggie McNeil, General Henry Huntley, Major General Mark Schindler.
“We must find out how to better communicate with our veteran constituencies, if we expect to maintain relationships and continue to be wonderful partners, while ensuring the appropriate policies and legislation and resources are made available to our veteran family.” says general Huntley.
Secretary McNeil says “We knew this would be an all hands on deck effort. Not only will this facility support the needs of our veterans, but it will be sustainable.” He says the cost and energy savings are boosted, with the current design plan.
New features at the $97 million dollar facility include a new three floor building with kitchens, rooms for 200 residents, community room, activity room, chapel, kitchens with dining rooms, therapy space, pharmacy, canteen, library, and barber/beauty shop. It’s expected to be complete in 2025.
